The Mayor’s Thames Festival - 11 & 12 September 2010 Noon-10pm This is a free event based on and around the River Thames from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge with a mixture of street arts, performance, carnival, pyrotechnics, illuminations, art installations, exhibitions, river events, massed choirs, circus, music and dance, food and feasting. The finale is a magical illuminated Night Procession that winds along the north and south banks of the Thames, followed by a fireworks display fired from the centre of the river itself. http://www.thamesfestival.org/festival
Swamp Rock Stage presents A Musical Gumbo - Sun 12 September 2010 12 noon - 8.30pm 21st Century Hoedown Stage @ Oxo Tower Wharf, London A Sunday Special Menu of Meaty, Beaty Jambalaya from Louisiana, Hot and Spicy Chilli from the Deep South, Eels and Mash from the badlands of Essex, Sweet Buskers' Jam from Old London Town, Soulful Chicken Soup and Latkes from Eastern Europe, with a pinch of this and a dash of that. A delicious fun day of world music and dance by the Oxo Tower. Elvis Fontenot will be performing from 7.00pm, with a Zydeco dance workshop with Suzi Wheller from about 6.30. Sat 11 – Sun 12 September 2010 / 12 noon - 10pm Lady Luck Jive Stage Tate Modern Forecourt, London Next Now a firm festival favourite, the Jive Stage and al fresco ballroom return with a jam-packed weekend of swing, jive and lindy hop for all, whether you're an aficionado on the dance floor or just a beginner. September - The Greenwich Cajun Music and Dance Festival Cajunbarn and Greenwich Council have a programme of Cajun instrumental, singing and dance workshops taking place at The Tudor Barn on Thursday 16th. and Friday 17th. September. The 11 workshops are taking place over 2 days and evenings and are led by experienced and well known Cajun musicians/artistes. The theme of the festival is about joining in and playing, singing and dancing Cajun style For everyone who’s up for it, there’s a short performance by the “workshoppers” of a 2-step and a waltz at the start of the Festival party on Friday night After the ”workshoppers” performance, Gavin Lewery and Chanky-Chank will take the stage If you’ve ever fancied playing, singing and/or dancing Cajun style then come to this. All you will need is an instrument and a basic knowledge of playing it. If you fancy singing – just come along, you don’t need a “good” singing voice or be able to “sing in tune” fiddle, accordion, guitar and singing workshops - £7.00 dance workshops - £3.50 Admissions to workshops are free if you are in Greenwich Borough, Festival Party with Gavin Lewery and Chanky-Chank - £10.00 but only £7 if you’ve been to a workshop!
